Heartworm is a type of roundworm and it spreads through bite of an infected mosquito. It is quite commonly seen to affect dogs, but it also affects other animals such as cats, wolves, and foxes. The reason why this disease is named heartworm is because the parasite resides in the right ventricle of the heart.
